Vaccinations

An international certificate of vaccination against polio is compulsory for children aged between three months and six years.

An international certificate of vaccination against yellow fever is compulsory for travelers from, or who have visited some countries (see list on sites below).

Additionally, vaccination against yellow fever is recommended for all travelers when visiting the following states of Brazil: Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. Please note that yellow fever vaccinations take approximately 10 days to become effective.

Airports
Aeroporto Tancredo Neves, airport code: CNF, usually referred to as Confins, after the name of the nearby town, (tel (0) 31/3689-2700), distance to city centre 32 km or some 40 min easy bus ride.

Aeroporto da Pampulha airport code: PLU, 9km from the city centre, for some domestic flights only (tel (0) 31/3490-2001).

Location and connections

The main international gateway is the international airport of Guarulhos (airport code GRU), in São Paulo. located 586 km from Belo Horizonte. Connecting flights, arriving in Confins airport, take about one hour. The connection GRU/CNF my be preferable because there is no need to change airports. Alternative connections from São Paulo’s domestic airport Congonhas (CGH) to Belo Horizonte’s CNF or PLU are possible. There is a shuttle bus service between São Paulo international GRU and domestic CGH airports.

There are frequent bus connections to Belo Horizonte from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (450 km away). Intercity buses arrive at a central bus station, referred to as “Rodoviária”.

Participants arriving by air

on Friday 11, Saturday 12 or Sunday 13 August, should proceed to the 8th WCGALP reception desk at Confins airport. A bus shuttle service to the MinasCentro Conventions Centre and official hotels will be available for those advising their arrival flight up to July 7, 2006 in the following link http://wcgalp8.org.br/usuario/preparaAutenticacao.do. Alternatively use an airport taxi service (booked in the counters located inside the airport hall) or the bus shuttle service to downtown terminal.
